Devin Desktop

Cognition's AI IDE, renamed from Windsurf to Devin Desktop, with Tab completions and an agent command center.

What is Devin Desktop, in two sentences

Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf: Cognition's AI IDE now leads with an Agent Command Center for running coding agents locally or in the cloud, and keeps the full IDE with Tab completions. The Free plan is $0, Pro $20 a month and Max $200 a month; Teams costs $80 a month plus $40 a month per full dev seat.

About Devin Desktop

Devin Desktop is built on the IDE foundation of Windsurf, with the Agent Command Center, made up of Spaces, a Kanban view and multi-agent management, at the front and the full IDE still available. Windsurf users get it as a standard over-the-air update that carries over their plan, pricing, extensions and settings, and the FAQ says only the name and branding change.

Through the Agent Client Protocol (ACP) it manages other agents and the frontier models in one place. Sessions run on your machine or in Devin Cloud and can move between the two with the same context. Devin can coordinate subagents that each produce their own pull requests, Fast Context finds the files and lines an agent needs, and Devin Review checks each diff from the editor.

For code you type yourself there are Tab completions and Supercomplete, which Cognition says predicts your next thought, not just your next edit. Devin Fusion pairs a frontier lead model with a cheaper sidekick model that executes. Pro adds frontier models from OpenAI, Claude, Gemini and SpaceXAI, open-source models and free use of SWE-2, Cognition's latest model. Listed integrations include Slack, Microsoft Teams, Linear, Notion, Atlassian, Datadog, Sentry, Figma, Vercel and Stripe.

The download page offers Devin Desktop for macOS on Apple Silicon or Intel, for Windows on x64 or arm64 with Windows 10 (64-bit) as the minimum, and for Linux through apt or rpm. Windsurf for JetBrains, a plugin for IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm and other JetBrains IDEs, is still available, and the Devin CLI runs Devin locally in a terminal.

Devin Desktop pros and cons

Pros

  • The Free plan includes unlimited Tab completions and unlimited inline edits.
  • Available as a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux and as a plugin inside JetBrains IDEs, with the Devin CLI for the terminal.
  • Current Windsurf plans and prices stay the same after the rename, including legacy Windsurf Enterprise plans.
  • Teams covers up to 200 users with sharing, centralized billing and an admin dashboard with analytics.

Cons

  • The Free plan has only a light quota for agents and limited model availability.
  • Paid usage is an allowance that refreshes daily and weekly; the pricing page says cost per message varies with the model, the size and complexity of the task and the reasoning required, and usage beyond the allowance is bought at API pricing.
  • The download page lists no VS Code extension; the only editor plugin it offers is for JetBrains IDEs.
