Duolingo Max
Duolingo's AI tier with conversational role-play and explain-my-answer features.
Duolingo Max — Duolingo's AI tier with conversational role-play and explain-my-answer features. Includes an AI Roleplay feature that lets learners practice conversation with simulated characters in scenarios like ordering coffee or interviewing for a job.
About Duolingo Max
Duolingo Max is Duolingo's top subscription tier that adds generative-AI features to the language-learning app. It launched in March 2023 and runs on OpenAI's GPT-4.
Its two AI features are Roleplay, which lets learners hold a conversation with simulated characters in scenarios like ordering coffee or a job interview, and Explain My Answer, which gives a natural-language reason for why a response was right or wrong.
It fits learners who already pay for Duolingo and want conversation practice and answer explanations on mobile. It costs more than standard premium tiers because it requires an active Super Duolingo subscription on top of the Max add-on fee, the AI features are not available for every course or exercise type, and it works only on the iOS and Android apps with no web or desktop client.
Among AI language tools, it is a paid add-on inside an existing app rather than a standalone tutor, so its reach is tied to Duolingo's own courses.
