Gemini Task

Google's agent in the Gemini app for multi-step tasks and schedules, for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

What is Gemini Task, in two sentences

Task is a mode in the Gemini app where you assign Gemini tasks to automate workflows and run schedules; Google launched it in May 2026 as Gemini Spark and renamed it Task. It needs a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription and is not offered in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Nigeria.

About Gemini Task

On Google's help page, you tell Gemini your goals and when you want tasks completed, and it works from sources such as Connected Apps, skills, chats, websites you're signed into, Personal Intelligence and location. Google's examples include summarizing or archiving newsletters, alerts when flight and hotel prices drop within your budget, and research with cited sources packaged into PDFs, documents, spreadsheets or presentations. You can change the Gemini model or thinking level from the model menu.

Google's launch post called it a 24/7 personal AI agent deeply integrated with Workspace tools such as Gmail, Docs and Slides, which can run recurring tasks or triggers, learn new skills and build complete workflows. Google says you choose whether to turn it on and which apps it connects to, and that it is designed to ask you first before high-stakes actions like spending money or sending emails.

Google planned a beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US in May, then brought it to the Gemini Mac app in beta for Ultra subscribers aged 18 and over, starting in the US, and in July rolled out access for Google AI Pro subscribers in over 160 additional countries. The July Gemini Drop called it available worldwide, with a footnote excluding the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Nigeria.

Google's updates name connected apps including Google Tasks, Google Keep, Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable and Zillow Rentals, plus custom Model Context Protocol (MCP) connections. A July update added Chrome auto browse, which with your permission can use your logged-in accounts and saved passwords for web errands, starting in the US. The help page says tasks are only available in the Gemini mobile app, the Gemini app on Mac and the Gemini web app.
